Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint (Mooresville NC)

cassalyn

My name is Cassalyn Gohringer, and I live in Mooresville, North Carolina, USA. I am 16 years old. My carbon footprint was 19,809 kg. This is above average for my region, which is 15,918 kg. The majority of my footprint came from transportation, which surprised me because I haven't gone on any airplanes this year. I believe my transportation score was so high because I  have gone on a few long car trips with my mom. I thought my carbon footprint would be much lower. I hypothesized that I would be around average. One big thing I could do to lower my carbon footprint are ride my bike or walk places if they are close instead of driving.

I think your idea on walking and/or biking is a good idea. It seems that if you go on a few longer trips and if you walk or bike around town then your transportation will become lower, and your carbon footprint will lower as well.
