Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint

ivak

Hi everyone!
I am Iva, a 15 year old student from Croatia. My carbon footprint is 7316 kgs of CO2 per year, which is more than an average footprint for Croatia (5736 kgs of CO2 per year). Finding that out makes me feel very ashamed of my actions. I did expect it to be smaller, but I guess knowing this now will make me "wake up" and start thinking more before I do something bad for our planet.
I don't think this can be changed overnight, but with small changes in my everyday life I hope to be less harmful to the planet.
Last year, after finding more about this subject, I started to make little changes in my life like using glass water bottles instead of plastic and rag bags instead of plastic.
Once the weather gets better, I will start walking more, instead of having to drive everywhere. I eat organic or home grown about 70% of the time, but I would still like to reduce my meat intake, even though that can be pretty hard  when living in the same household with mo re people.
I think it is very important that we talk about this topic more - inform people about how they can help this planet to be a better place for us and the generations after us.
