Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint (9,765) is similar to the California and USA average. I rarely travel by plane, but last year I did, and my emission of CO2 from the Transportation section increased by a large amount. Without that round-trip plane ride, my carbon footprint would not be as large. In the Home category, my emission is about half compared to my region's emission. From where I live, the weather does not become too extreme, so it is easier to reduce the use of heaters or air conditioners.

I live in Florida, so I do not have to worry about heating costs and our air conditioning is run through Florida Power and Light.
