Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Palo Alto Student Footprint

I was surprised by how low my carbon footprint was.  It came out to be 3,096 CO2 per year, which was lower than both California's average (9,727) and global average (3,791).  My transportation was my lowest expense at 9kg and I think this is primarily because I rarely fly and I carpool with my family in our electric vehicle, which emits no CO2.  All sections (transportation, home, food, and purchases were all way below California's averages.  My house being fairly new has energy efficient / energy saving appliances.
