Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint

Gabypelayo

My total carbon footprint was 21,668. The majority of my carbon footprint is due to my transportation methods (I drive a lot and have been traveling by plane a lot recently). My carbon footprint due to transportation was 17,458. My carbon footprint due to home was 2,765, food was 1,365, and purchases was 80. I can make a real impact on my carbon footprint if reduce my transportation by car/plane. I can take public transportation and bike more frequently.

My carbon footprint is pretty low (8353 kgs). The highest portion of it is home energy (4714 kgs). I want to cut back on it by turning the eat down more in the winter and wearing sweaters instead, as I usually wear one anyway. Also, my water consumption is something that can be improved, such as not flushing and "letting the yellow mellow." Also, washing hands and dishes while leaving the water running. If I can improve on both of these, my carbon footprint will be in a really good condition.

My carbon footprint was about 28,000. It was this high because of my transportation. I have been on two fairly long plane flights in the past year, so this has definitely not benefited my carbon footprint. I also drive a long distance quite often for sports and other extra-curricular activities. I will try to improve on this by working to walk or bike to as many places as possible so I can cut down on the CO2 emissions created by my car. I will also try to turn off the lights whenever I leave a room because my home was another big contributor to my high carbon footprint. I was not happy with how high my carbon footprint was so I will work to lower it down very hard.

My Carbon footprint was (11,857 Kg). It was below average mainly due to my lack of travel or transportation. My Home footprint was (6,463 Kg) which is the highest and the only emission over the average. I can improve upon this by using less electricity, this way i don't have such a high CO2 emission rate
