Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

What can i do to make my footprint of CO2 lower?

patryksztejter

After taking the test i got result, and they said that my footprints are 8,977 of CO2 per year, and the average per year is 7,884. Which means i have 1,093 more than the average...

                                  Me:         My region:
Transportation:      5,532         2,624
  Home:                    266            622
  Food:                     2,879         3,563
  Purchases:            300            1,075

And i was thinking what can i do to make my CO2 at least equal the average. Well I think the main problem is the transportation but i can´t lower it that much because i have to go 100Km every month to the dentist and thats a lot. I walk to school and back home everyday, usually i don't use car because i don't have the driving license. So I usually take a walk every time I can. So do you have some ideas for me what can i do to lower the CO2?

There are many things you can do to lower your carbon footprint. Something you can do to lower your carbon footprint in transportation is to drive an electric or hybrid car according to http://cotap.org/reduce-carbon-footprint/ . Electric cars get their power from solar panels which convert sunlight into electricity. Hybrids use a combination of both electricity and gas. Both cars do a better job at reducing their carbon footprint than a regular car. The way someone drives can also affect their carbon footprint. Drivers that speed or use unnecessary acceleration can reduce their mileage by 33%. This can be a waste of gas and money, and increase your carbon footprint. The last thing I found that could reduce a person’s carbon footprint in transportation is to combine errands and make fewer trips.
