Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Transportation

Transportation is one of the bigger reasons why our carbon footprints are so high. Plane rides and cars are huge parts of this. Sometimes we unnecessarily use cars to get places even when they are in a close distance to us. It would be better to walk or bike because it helps you keep your carbon footprint low. Using public transportation, bikes, and even car pooling helps the environment because it saves us from having more people with high carbon footprints.

I agree that transportation is a big reason why our carbon footprint can be so high. Planes play a very large part in this because they give off very large amounts of carbon. If people can reduce the amount of flights they take, by driving, or using different types of transportation. I also agree that people should try to carpool, use public transportation, and also only use a car when necessary. Another thing that people could do is get cars that are fuel efficient, or even run on clean energy. Hydrogen cars are beginning to appear, and they may be the next step to cutting back on car emissions.
