Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Use energy-efficient cars.

Sir_JaKrispy

This can significantly reduce one's carbon footprint.

I agree. We could have the government put mileage policies on outgoing cars, so that eventually everyone will be driving a more fuel efficient car. However I feel like "fuel efficiency" is nowadays measured in standards of if the car is electric, and I do not agree, it takes a lot of money and fuel to make electric cars, and the current prices of them are just way to much for the average person to afford. I think instead we should focus on cars with higher mileage for now until the overall price of electric vehicles goes down.

Hydrogen cars are what I had in mind.

Have people buy a hybrid as a new vehicle or one with a low mpg for the best gas mileage possible. It is also possible to lower your current vehicle's mpg by taking care of its engine.

Eventually we will have cars like Teslas where it is fully electric at a affordable price.

Yes hybrid cars are good but fully electric cars are much better. They are more expensive though they are much better for the environment. But just because someone might drive an electric or hybrid car does not mean its alway good for the environment. People do not think about where the power from the car comes form. It is usually form coal power plants and other kinds of power that are not clean.
