Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Water Usage

I watched a commercial that showed turing off your water while brushing your teeth saves four gallons. This is a current problem people have in their household. Except this doesn't go just for brushing teeth, water usage is a common issue in general. Some bad examples of water usage is pouring out water bottles, showing for a long time, just letting water run in general, washing your car, etc. We use water for many things and continually wastes them. We will soon run out of water unless we can purify it any time we would  like too. Something needs to change.

I agree with you because most people don't think about how much water is being wasted when we leave the water on while brushing our teeth or leaving the water on while washing our selves in the shower. It might not hurt yourself because people just think water is here and we use it but really, it slowly starts to decrease and we begin to lose most of it. I feel that waterparks are also a big impact because of all the water used. We need to create a system that can help us save more water because other states are beginning to become in droughts. Like you said something needs to change!!!!

I agree, most countries (the United States being a big one) have an issue with wasting water. Just simply shutting the water off when brushing your teeth can make a difference. Our water supply is not unlimited, although some seem to believe that. Shutting off faucets when not using them, showering for less time, and not dumping out water bottles are realistic ideas but can still have a big impact on this rising issue.

I agree that  people don't realize how much water they actually use, and/or they do not care.  I found out that flushing your toilet is one of the leading causes of high water bills, and getting double flushing toilets  is a very good way to save water. Also, a lot of people take unnecessarily long showers, and that is something that everybody could work on to help save as much water as possible.

I entirely agree with the statement that many take water for granted and use more then they should which heavily impact the environment. The average person through bathing, consumption, and general usage uses 80-100 gallons of water per day. This number is ridiculous as humans are only in need of less then half of this.  The lack of clean water does not allow those who are in need of water to access it. This includes species who are running out of resources to survive. Water itself actually absorbs CO2 decreasing the amount of water is taking away a large reservoir in which CO2 is transformed. The filtration and transportation of water also increases CO2 levels produced. Water is very important in our life and the overuse is very damaging to our ecosystem.
