Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

off the table

Something that is off the table when it comes to reducing my carbon footprint is my food consumption. Food consumption was my largest contributor to my carbon footprint. People say that the more eco friendly way to eat food is to go vegan. People also say that to decrease carbon footprints, we should go back to a time before the technologies that are responsible for CO2 emissions. But during that time, nobody was consciously thinking about only consuming vegetarian things. This is because humans in their natural state eat meat, and that is their best chance of survival, even in today's world. Without meat, you are mineral deficient, and that affects your ability to exist. If the whole world decided to go eco friendly with their diet, we would be extinct before we died from global warming.
