Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint

abae2000

My region has an average of 15918. My carbon footprint is 18847. My transportation is about 7,000 higher than my region's while in home, food, and purchases, mine is about 1,000-2,000 lower than the region's. The score for transportation makes over half of my total score. This is most likely because I live in a town so you cannot really walk anywhere because places aren't that close to each other,  I drive into the city at least once a week which is about 73 km away, and I usually take a 7 hour plane trip once a year.

Before looking at my carbon footprint I did not realize how much of an affect transportation would have on it. It is very interesting how much transportation actually affects the environment even though so many people reply on transportation every day. It is such a staple in the everyday lives of so many people that I think it would be hard to stop it and try to reverse the problem.

i think you should use public transit more often in order to lower  your carbon footprint

My transportation footprint was high as well. I have family that I visit once a year and the only was is by plane. The only way for me to go to the closest town from my house is by car. I wish there was something I could do about it because its too far to walk. The only thing I could really do to lower my score is get a more fuel efficient car.

holloway

My Transportation footprint wasn't as high as yours but then again I live about a mile from the center of my town and I recently got a fuel efficient car. The only thing I could suggest to you would be to get a reliable fuel efficient car to help bring the transportation footprint score down.

You should attempt to reduce the amount of travel you have to take to make it to the city. Move closer, get a fuel efficient car, or use public transportation.

You should Reduce what ever you do that cause your carbon foot print to be so high

Maybe try a car that saves more energy or has better mileage

andrewreid

I think what you can do is get an electric car or use your bike so you release less carbon into the atmosphere.

andre1033

You probably fly alot because thats what made my carbon footprint super high, maybe drive more instead of flying.

I think we could all invest in a better car, although that is just one change so if it isn't an option we can all reduce our carbon footprint in the other sections.

It's ok that you travel a lot, just try to use public transit more often and you'll be fine.
