Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

After calculating my carbon footprint, I came to a total of 19,817 which was higher than my regional total of 15,918. Originally I had predicted that my score would be about the same as an average person in North Carolina. However, after calculating my score, it made sense that it was higher because I have a longer drive to school than most people. That is why the transportation section was the highest score in my carbon footprint. One of the things I found most interesting about my carbon footprint was the purchases section. In my region, the purchases score was averaged at 1,950, but my score was only 338. I think this is due to the fact that in my home, we recycle everything that is able to be recycled.
