Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint in Iceland.

lasjfnsvansdttir

My footprints were over the average footprint in Iceland. I was just over 7884 kgs. I had 7896 kgs. But thats only because how much I travel by car. I drive around 210 km per week. But I only drive, when it is necessary. I drive to my school, and back home and that is 30 km per day. And if there were buses in the country side, I would take the bus, instead. And if I need something from the store, then again 30 km. Or if I want to travel to Reykjavík, thats around 120 km to Reykjavík and back home. But, in all the other category I was under the average use.

It sounds like you drive a lot

My transportation average was pretty high compared to my classmates because I live farther from my school than my peers. We also travel during the summer frequently.

you must live far from many places but all you can do is drive or ride a bus its to far to bike or walk but you can carpool

Having a long way to travel really makes your carbon footprint skyrocket. It sounds like transportation probably accounts for most of your carbon footprint. Maybe eventually there will be public transportation you can take advantage of since you have to drive so far.

Wow you travel a lot by automobile. Maybe, since you travel a a lot, you should find a car with good mileage to reduce your carbon footprint.

I myself drive to and from school on weekdays and to work on weekends. Both school and my work are relatively close to my house so my footprint isn't as high as yours I also have a fuel efficient car to help me out. The only thing that I would suggest would be to get a fuel efficient car as well to help reduce your carbon footprint.

You should travel less by car and more on pulbic trasnportation

You should travel with a car with less mileage to try and reduce your footprint

I have to travel by automobile a lot as well. The only way I can get to school or town is by car, Its a hard part of your carbon emissions to lower. The only way to lower them is to drive a car that is gasoline efficient.
