Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Schools Going Green

whitee20

Schools all over the nation should be putting a priority on going green. There are many ways for schools to be making a difference. Solar panels can reduce the amount of carbon released into the atmosphere. Having recycling and compost cans next to every trash can will insure our waste is categorized properly. Being aware that our schools can go green will lead to a change in our world.

I beleive as well that schools should go green it might be exspensive to switch but in the long run the school would save a lot more money. Can u imagine the affect if just 10 schools went green, the impact it would have it wouldn't  even be hard .

I believe that it is a good idea for schools to go green as well. Schools produce so much CO2 in the average day, between the cafeteria and all of the students/ teachers cars, all of the energy that the classrooms use for projectors, and to keep the lights on. I think that schools should all have some type of garden that can take the strain off of the cafeteria buying all the food from different places and having it brought to the school on big trucks, from planes and boats.

I agree, because not only would schools going green make an impact on the environment, but it could also be a cheaper alternative as well. Going green in schools would make alternative energy sources more accessible to all people if it becomes a widespread energy source.

I agree, because schools are where kids spends most of their day and create a majority of their trash. I also believe that it is one of their biggest influences, so if they are shown and practiced good habits there, they will bring them home.

I agree, because schools are places for kids and even adults to have fun but it is also a place where trash and other things disappear in.

Yes, teaching students about what you can do is one thing but for a school to do things like put up solar panels is so much more meaningful. If one place were to be green, it should be schools. Kids will bring the experience of having a green school into their future, which is what we really need. Our school has solar panels and a windmill, and sometimes we can power our entire school only on that!
