Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

HOME ENERGY CHANGES?

baylyc

I never really payed attention to how much electricity we use in our house. Sure, showers are short. Thermostat is set on a good number, but one thing thats really weighing on me is the amount of Fluorescent and LED lights we have. In total I have 97 lights; 31 LED, 76 Fluorescent. The number of hours we have the fluorescent lights on are more than 24 hours a day. WHICH IS CRAZY TO ME. As for LED, we only have them on for a total of 7 hours a day. Still, too many hours I would say. Since getting my results back from the Carbon Footprint, I'm learning to turn the lights off each time we are not using them. Thus, saving more energy.

I find this very interesting considering I only have one LED light throughout my entire house which is actually found in my bedroom and I only use it a few hours a day. I think when it comes to electricity, people should start thinking about the effects of their amount of usage. Most of the time, people tend to leave lights and other electronics on when they are not in the room, which also leaves a higher electricity bill for them as well. Thank you for such a great post and don't forget to turn your lights off when leaving the room!
