Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

MY Student Footprint
After gathering the information needed to calculate my carbon footprint, I was a little shocked to see that my overall footprint was 22,720. The amount for my Transportation category alone was a total of 19,295 kg, which is 16,738 more than the average amount of my region. I travel a lot to visit my family in Algeria, and this is why my transportation amount is so huge. The most effective way to reduce my overall carbon footprint would be to fly less often. This way, airplanes would not burn as much jet fuel, specifically from each takeoff. This means that less planet-warming gases are emitted to the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I have no control over the number of flights we take in our household every year. There is no way I can fly less often at this age. Although it is hard for me to lower my transportation footprint since we are flying to visit family, which is very important, I could still try to lower my overall carbon footprint in other ways. At home, my family and I could decrease the amount of CO2 that is used by turning off lights when we are not in a c ertain room. To reduce my carbon footprint in the Purchases category, we could reuse plastic whenever we can and also recycle it instead of
carelessly throwing it away with our trash. Filtering our tap water would also be a good idea because we wouldn't have to buy as many plastic water bottles this way.
I strongly believe that every individual could decrease their carbon footprint by taking necessary actions to prevent our carbon usage as an entire planet from continuously growing, even if it means turning off one light when leaving a room or recycling a single plastic bottle. Although these actions may seem small, they would leave a great impact on our environment over time.
