Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Student reduction

There are a whole lot of kids going to school and wasting energy. I myself am a student and so this everyday without realizing it. A good way to reduce energy is to invest in solar panels. I understand that they are quite expensive but if we all pitch in we can make it happen.

This could work for some areas, but for others it might be to hard for families to pitch in money for them.

I totally agree with what you said @danirichard. On my school campus, we do have solar panels on the roof of the school building and it does have a big impact on the amount of energy waste we have. Solar panels are a really great way to lower the energy usage at schools. As well, my school has done a day in the year where we try to go through the day with using as little energy as possible. We would keep lights off during class, not using computers, etc. This is also something that would be so great to try if you want to reduce your energy usage, but it would be really difficult to do on a regular basis.
