Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How Co2 Affects the ocean

OliviaMLLHS

Ocean Acidification has a big impact on the world and can create a fairly large problem if not stopped. Ocean Acidification is large quantities of Co2 being distributed in the Ocean. Fossil fuel, coal oil, Natural Gases that have been burned and the Co2 bubbles underneath glaciers creating 500 billion tons of Co2. The ocean has absorbed 30% of Co2 released by humans, and currently takes in at least million tons each hour. You might be wondering how Co2 has been impacting the ocean,  well let me tell you. Places in the ocean that have a high number on the PH scale ( scale that measures acidity in ocean from 0-14) is missing nearly a third of marine life. The only living organisms that are found in those areas contained  limpets, sea grass, Jellyfish and algae. Acidification interferes with the reproduction in some species. This also creates a problem for coral reefs it adds on the threat of undermines the coral basics. It also causes slower growth and organisms began to pick and eat the coral. Not only is this a problem for marine life, but it’s a problem for us. Many peo ple live by the ocean and consume/ live off of seafood. With these aquatic creatures missing they would lose food rations causing them to starve later on in the future. Creating an even bigger problem if the quantity of Co2 in the ocean spreads. Acidification in the ocean has many more problems, some we even don’t know about yet. The only way we can spot this is to dramatically reduce the Co2 usage and emission. Great post, i do agree with you on many points. i believe that we can reduce ocean acidification by controlling runoff into streams and rivers, and also controlling waste management better.
