Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint vs. others
I found the comparison of my carbon footprint to the rest of the world’s footprints very interesting. When I clicked on the world map link, I found that the U.S. has the highest carbon footprint averages. I think that this is because here in the U.S., we have more access to higher quality things and we have more money than other parts of the globe. We also have things like air conditioning and heating units that do not exist in other parts of the globe, and people in our region tend to travel a lot, whether it is for business or it is for pleasure. I did not necessarily try to lower my footprint average from my region’s average because I just wanted to know how I truly compared to the rest of the globe. My carbon footprint was high mainly because of the flights I took in the past year. In prior years I have not taken as many flights so I feel that my footprint is not completely accurate, this year was an outlier from previous years. To lower my carbon footprint in my daily life, I should start really paying attention to how often I turn on my lights and make sure they are off when I leave a room. I should also take less flights if I wanted the transportation section to lower.
