Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Impact

I consider myself and my family to be reasonably carbon conscious. I personally drive a electric car that is powered by the solar panels we have installed on our home. We also have taken many smaller actions to lessen our carbon footprint such as growing some of our own food, eating less meat, eating more locally and organically, recycling, composing and much more. I feel like I have already done a lot in respect to reducing my footprint but there is always more you can do. Steps I want take, along with my family, are reducing using paper (mail subscriptions, printing on both sides, only print when needed), buy more used products (thrift shopping), turning off electronics when not in use, creating less waste, and any more things that are brought up throughout my life. Also another simple thing I can do on a daily basis is keep myself and other educated. I can keep myself updated on new, more efficient methods and products and remind other people about simple thing s such as to turn off the light or just discuss with friends ways to help when we get together. Reducing you footprint relies on the effort you put in and the knowledge you have on the topic to make better choices.
