Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Solutions and Risks for Climate Change

martiny

Climate problems have been arising a lot recently and global leaders have met in order to find a convenient solution. The potential risks are devastating - it is estimated that 30% of all animal species alive currently will become extinct, entire countries will be flooded and numerous more reasons to keep an eye. In many years, people will not have the same opportunities that we currently do (and we are making it worse by burning fossil fuels) to in the woods on a hike and see wild life. Forests fires will expand and be more frequent in the future.
COP21 which is the Conference of Parties (meeting for the 21st time) is a meeting between global leaders. They discuss and collaborate in order to find a “solid” solution to climate change.  All other 20 times that they met were unable to find a handy solution.  Their goal was to reduce global emissions in order to sustain a “healthy” earth.
However, unfortunately the plan is still to “bike instead of drive” and “don’t liter.” Obviously, the small things do matter, but when there is a big problem like this one, we need a bi g solution.
Industry, agriculture, and cars emitting gases are the main reasons why climate change is a reality. The innovation of electric cars will hopefully prevent more of these poisonous gases from being in our atmosphere. Turning off lights, faucet, and other things will obviously help conserve resources. But new inventions like electrical cars are part of the bigger picture.

Fires are a pretty big component towards Climate Change. Not only does Co2 cause rise in heat but causes wildfires, but causes glaciers to melt. The smog from the wildfires travel all the way to the glaciers causing them to melt, and put co2 into the  ocean. ( co2 bubbles underneath glaciers) The melting of Glaciers raise the sea levels, making floods. the Co2 in the ocean is making it Acidic and causing a third of the marine life to become extinct. Co2 has a HUGE impact of us and MUST be put to a STOP. If not there will be so much disturbance is the world. We can make a difference by stopping the emission of Co2 if we all work together!!!
