Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Can One Person Do Enough?

Instead of focusing on one person individually, why aren't we making changes in towns and cities as a whole? Wouldn't the change be so much more significant if an entire town made the changes it was required to? I think that instead of just putting awareness out there and suggesting that people start making better decisions, we stop suggesting and start demanding. Imagine if it was a law in a town to recycle, and plastic bags were banned? Imagine if people had to do their part, instead if just others suggesting that they do it. I think that global warming is already so far along, that action needs to happen as soon as possible, and as strict as possible.

I agree that this the way to fix these issues, but people don’t want to change how they act. especially some U.S. Politicians. Some don't want to go through the work to create these new rules let alone enforce. Some politicians are willing to overlook these hardships for the betterment of the world. I feel us as nation/world need to push our leaders to try to help with these issues not deny they exist.

One singular person will likely not have a drastic effect on the emissions from countries  like the United States, but entire communities adopting greener lifestyles could have a drastic effect. If the U.S. was to drive the rest of the world to greener lifestyles along with itself, we could not only lower our emissions from some of the highest, we could also bring some other countries down with us. This map just shows that we are some of the biggest factors in the worlds health, and if the country were to become more mindful our output, we could save our world. htt p://www.carbonmap.org/#Emissions

I think you have the right idea when saying we should work together to solve this issue, many hands make light work. I don't see why that would not apply to this situation.
