Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

What I Wouldn't Do

KyliabLLHS

There are pieces of my daily life that are uncompromisable, even when it comes to carbon footprints. Some are because of the household I live in, and how because it isn’t mine, I cannot convince the others living in it to change. Some are just selfish habits. I cannot change the dinner schedule. If we have to have chicken to dinner then we have to have chicken for dinner. I can change how much of the food goes to waste, and how much is being eaten by me. I cannot control how hot my showers are, since our water goes from scorching hot to frostbite. I can control the amount of time I am in the shower. I cannot control how long the other people in my house leave their phones or computer plugged in. I can control how long I myself leave it in. I cannot control the length of time or gas mileage it takes to get me from home to school and school to home. I can control how many days of the week I walk rather than drive. There are many things I can control when it comes to energy efficacy, and other things are just Off The Table.
