Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carpool

maggiebautista

For about a year and a half I have been driving school 10 miles away, then to soccer practice,2o miles away, then 30 miles from soccer practice, home. I would do this entire trip about four times a week.  There were three other girls coming from my area, to go to our practice so we made a carpool. Now, instead of us all driving to practice separately, emitting much more CO2, we share the same car to get to practice and back, with all of the sets taken in the car.  I also carpool with a neighbor of mine to get to school. While it would be better to not go so far for school and practice, it is good to cut back in CO2 emission anyway you can, not to mention the connivence of carpooling for all.

Hi, I relate to your reflection very much, my middle school was over 25 miles away. My mother drove me there and then back every day (4 trips for my mother). After 2 years, we  found someone in my neighborhood who went to school very close to mine, thus reducing our CO2 emissions by a monumental amount, also like you said, carpooling is indeed very convenient.

I carpool to and from school every school day, with usually three other people. I agree that carpooling really helps the environment. According to https://www.carsdirect.com/car-safety/5 … arpooling, "Carpooling can have great effects on the environment. The more cars that are on the road, the more toxic emissions that are released into the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, are released from the exhaust and cause the so-called greenhouse effect. This is believed by some to be a cause of global warming and has been a big problem over the past 100 years. It also creates poorer air quality." When you carpool you are helping the atmosphere and helping to prevent some global warming. If four people are carpooling imagine how many greenhouse gases you are preventing from entering the atmosphere. I highly recommend carpooling to help save the atmosphere from the negative effects of too many greenhouse gases.
