Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

How much are we really helping?

When we think about carbon pollution, we think about cars and factories releasing carbon into the atmosphere. But what we don't realize is that when carbon gets released into the atmosphere it also gets released into the ocean. According to https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Featu … page5.php,
the oceans pH has dropped 0.1 since 1750. Direct chemical exchange diffuses carbon into the ocean from the atmosphere. This not only affects the ocean water, but also the organisms living in the ocean. I think it is amazing how these two very real problems relate to each other in such a direct way; preserving ocean life and reducing carbon pollution. We, as humans, need to think about the other organisms we are affecting by pollution, instead of always focusing on how it will affect the human race.

I agree 100% with your statement. With as many people that are trying to help, there seems as if there are too many bad eggs out there.

I agree with you. What will happen to the ocean directly relates to our future, as it controls the temperature along with providing food. So maybe people should see gas emissions having an effect on other things apart from the atmosphere itself, maybe that would help in reducing the emissions in a more efficient way.
