Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Sustainable Cities

I think that in the future we should mainly focus on creating sustainable cities the reduce  the consumption of energy and also we should include in this cities a system for managing responsably the wastes we all have.

I think this is a great idea, but how do you plan on making that work? We could convert to 100% clean energy over time, but that's gonna take some work. And on top of that, if we did make the switch to 100% clean energy, we might destroy the environment around us by accident. Windmills take up a HUGE amount of space, and don't produce a very large amount of energy on their own. Solar panels are more efficient, but the sun isn't always shining. and dams would destroy the ecosystems around rivers and streams. I think fossil fuels are terrible for the environment, but having 100% clean energy could pose an almost equal threat. A step in the right direction would be finding a way to harness UV rays as energy
