Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Which is worse?

tspetrillo

are bottled water or aluminum cans worse for the environment?

eli16

I feel like it depends on whether or not you reuse the water bottles. If you don't reuse the water bottles than the aluminum cans are better because you can recycle them but if you reuse the water bottles than I think they are a better choice.

bottled water is better for the environment at least where I live because of constantly re-using any plastic jug we can for cider, and plastic bottles for water bottles again. But it really does depend on where you life and how you live on which one is worse.

I defiantly feel that water bottles are better for our environment because of the fact that we can reuse them. I reuse water bottles all the time, but they are bad for the environment because of how they are made. The making of plastic bottles pollutes the air, water and land and the workers that work there are unprotected due to being exposed to the harmful toxic chemicals.

I think it depends on if the water is in a plastic bottle or a reusable water bottle/glass bottle, etc, in which both the aluminum and the plastic have about the same impact. Of course if people reuse the plastic bottles then aluminum would be the worse. However, I don’t know of many people who reuse their plastic water bottles.

If you don't reuse the bottles, the cans are definitely better because they can be recycled. If everyone would be smart and reuse the plastic bottles though, that would be much better for the environment, not to mention it would be a cheap option instead of expensive metal bottles and stuff

Back in Ohio. we use we only get our water from plastic because the water there is bad.

In all i believe them to be equally harmful to the environment but i think people are more likely to reuse a plastic bottle of water over an aluminum can because they have the twist cap. Personally in my family, if we ever need to buy a plastic water bottle we reuse it until we get our hands on a reusable water bottle.

I believe that reusing water bottles is very easy and shouldn't be a problem but, i still think that plastic water bottles are very bad for the environment and should not  be used.

I believe that both are harmful for the environment but plastic bottles can be reused many times along with having its usefulness when needed
