Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

What can teens do?

thejesus27

I may be the only one but as a teenager I move around a lot when I'm with friends, generally by catching an uber or a lyft, but I also walk around. In my footprint I covered an average of 62 miles when with friends (usually on weekends). Should I start walking more? or is it ok to keep on with this level of transportation nearly every weekend. My transportation was the biggest part of my footprint, considering I also take a trip to see relatives every year which is a round trip (2 flights). Should I try other methods of traveling to see family? Let me know what you think I should try using to move around more without getting too much of a footprint.

thejesus27

But generally I don't hang out all week until the weekends and I want to get out and go move around places, if I stay at home I can't do that, however when I am at home I do keep lights off to save energy.

Well maybe if you used a fabulous lime bike or one of those groovy OFO bike thingamawhatsits, then you can not be such an energy sucking human being who is hurting the environment more every day.

thejesus27

Well actually, I'm jesus, so nah. Real talk, I forgot to mention that I do bike around quite often as well, or even walk. I don't really use up energy, I do go around a lot by ubering or lyfting places, but other than that I don't use up too much energy.

i think it would be better if you start walking or biking more because when you drive a lot its causing CO2 emissions which fill the air

Maybe if there was some way to get rid of all things electronic, the environment would start to heal itself. BOI

I think that you should start to walk or bike. The lime bikes are a great source of transportation and walking also has its benefits. When I walk I can feel less stressed and walking reduces your carbon footprint. I walk all the time with my friends whether I go shopping in downtown or a little 3 hour walk in my neighborhood.

i agree with all the statements above especially use of lime bikes, lime bikes are easy to use, cheap, and a is a great way to work out. Biking is a great to reduce the CO2 being produced in the air.

samshultz

yeah, walk a lot and bike is good.

gcorrine

If for any reason biking or walking isn't an option I would advise using a bus rather than a car because then its one less vehicle emitting CO2.

I think that you could divide the amount of your transportation by not only walking but also by walking, biking, etc. You could drive only when needed and walk/bike when a car is not necessary.
