Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Energy at home in USA

pedromartn

Hi my name is Pedro and I live in Denia, Spain. My institute is IES Historiador Chabás. My question is adressed to american people in general. Why do u spend so much energy at home ?

hodin

Hi Pedro, I think part of the big home footprint in the USA is that electricity and home heating often comes from polluting sources like coal, fuel oil or natural gas, but it varies a lot with US state, since different states have different electricity profiles.  Do you see any differences in the home footprints from state to state on our map?

pedromartn

the South area like Texas uses more enrgy at home than California and Washington for example

Good observation!  The state electricity balances are shown here:

You'll see the darker colors in Washington and California compared to Texas
