Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint - USA

jc18

My carbon footprint total ended up being 11,028. My hypothesis was that I would have a lower carbon footprint than the rest of my country, and I was right about that. I also said that my footprint would be higher than the rest of the world's. When I recorded data from three schools in other countries, I was only higher than one of them and the other two were much higher than mine. I was also lower than the region I live in. My average carbon footprint was also lower then my school average. The area I ranked the highest in is transportation and I think that is because I make long trips almost every weekend and I drive in the car a lot. The lowest average I had was purchase number compared to many others, and I think that is because   I don't buy a lot of things because my family passes things down and I have a lot of sisters so we all have to share. I was surprised at how high some other schools in other countries were compared to mine, but I was not surprised that I had a lower average than the other people at my school and in my region.

Your carbon footprint was much lower than mine, alittle less than half of mine, i wonder what our differences were?

Your carbon footprint is lower than mine by a 404. Some of the results that you got I had too. Like when you recorded the other three countries yours was much higher, mine was the same. The lowest average that we had was also purchases but I think that because purchasing stuff is not that important to us like transportation.

Your footprint was close to mine, and I was surprised too with my average for my region and world too. I think its good that you share- causing less costs for things such as clothes, and transportation.

You could lower your footprint by traveling less and maybe doing something else.

I think the reason my schools carbon footprint was higher then other footprints in other countries is because we have a very big school with lots of students about 400 in each class, which means transportation is going to be very high because of busses having to take these kids home.
