Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint thing basically told me I should get out more since my transportation footprint is really low but my energy usage (since I keep my room light on all day which is when I'm in my room) is pretty high.

Hello, flamedarkmoon! It's okay if you don't get out very often. From an environmental standpoint, that is totally awesome! You may be staying home a lot but you aren't using any carbon to do so! I understand that you keep your light on all day. Maybe you should consider switching to an LED lightbulb in your room. I have LED lights in my room. They are very bright and sometimes make me angry in the mornings due to the brightness but it's worth it for saving energy! Good luck with trying to reduce your carbon footprint. You can do this!!

I don't know if the LED lightbulb is an option.  However, I'm glad that my introverted ways help the environment at least a little.

Yeah I am the same way with my light keeping it on all day when I am in the room. That is why my carbon footprint in my home is pretty high.

It's not a bad thing that you like to stay in the house all the time especially for the environment but instead of using the light all the time, maybe leave your window uncovered to let in some natural light.

to use less light then , starting using a different lightbulb or start cutting them off more often

My transportation was extremely high due to the fact that I take a car everywhere I go. When I leave any room in my house I make sure the light is off.

It's actually pretty good if you don't drive a lot. Walking or biking is better for our environment instead of driving. Remember to cut off your lights and fans!

that good that you don't drive a lot, it helps reduce pollution. Also if you should switch to the energy efficient lightbulbs if you keep your lights on all day.
