Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint

ryan_u_usa_bod3mcw

Overall, my carbon footprint is pretty good. While it is above average for the average Californian and way above the worldwide average, that was due to my trip to China, which added on 5932 kg of carbon: even more than the average person produces in a year. This was astonishing since I never really thought about how much traveling impacted the atmosphere. However, my footprint without the vacation was only 5206 kg, above the average person but below the average Californian. This includes a home carbon footprint 2407 kg below average, a food carbon footprint 492 kg below average, a purchase carbon footprint 995 kg below average, and a transportation carbon footprint 628 kg below average, totaling to 5206 kg total carbon emissions (2827 kg below average).
