Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Footprint From Last Year
My footprint from last year was very high. In fact, it was higher by over ten thousand than the average. The average was in the 9,000 range altogether and my overall was 28,396!!! It was so high because this year I did a lot of traveling compared to my other traveling years. My transportation was 16,986 in kilograms. If I did not travel, then my average would be a lot better. I would be 11,410, which was about only 2,000 higher than the average. So next year I will try to travel less. The reason that my flying increased by average so much was because of the amount of jet fuel also known as kerosene. I researched the amount they use, and now I realize why my traveling increased my CO2 levels. In one mile, an airplane produces 53 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is a very high amount. The amount of carbon dioxide in kilograms I used for food was 2,119. The amount of carbon dioxide I used for home was 9,054. The amount of carbon dioxide I used for purchases was 2,557, which was much higher than most of my classmate's purchases were. Overall, my carbon footprint was high, but mostly because of traveling.
I found this surprising too. Before the travel aspect of the calculator, my average around 6000-6500, however, after logging in the flight details, my footprint skyrocketed to over 13000 kilograms. It also goes to show that the privilege we have takes a toll on the environment. Finally, I was surprised to see that Americans contribute almost thrice as much carbon dioxide on average per person as opposed to the rest of the world. Interesting, considering that certain politicians have dismissed the notion that America is a major contributor to climate change and that global warming can be blamed on countries like India or China.
