Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint

cecilyhusabod7sr

When I saw the results for my carbon footprint I was surprised at how above average my transportation carbon total was. Compared to average transportation in my region, I was 14, 000 kgs above. Although I traveled a lot this year and I drive a long way to sports practice, I didn't expect there to be that large a difference. Without my flights, I would have a traveling footprint of about 10,000 kgs which is significantly lower. According to a New York Times article, flying accounts for 11% of transportation CO2 emissions. To lower your carbon footprint they suggest buying carbon offsets. By buying these you are contributing money towards planting more trees, etc.
