Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Basic Necessities
Everyone in our world is so focused on what they want rather than what they need to survive. The more stuff people buy, the more carbon will be released into the air, ultimately increasing one's carbon footprint. Our society needs to be more aware of the effects on the environment and how the little things do add up. If everyone is buying new devices such as a laptop or a phone more than once a year, this can have a serious affect on our environment. We need to focus on buying the basic necessities, rather than what we just want. The things we need rather than the things we want emit much lower amounts of carbon into the air. If our society realized how much is affected by all of our unnecessary things maybe we could make an improvement on the environment.
I completely agree. People should be less materialistic, meaning they should care less about their possessions and more about the world they live in and the consequences they have on it. To take what you said further, I think that on a fundamental level the world, especially western countries such as the U.S, need to be re-wired so that people have a deeper understanding of the consequences of their actions, to understand the damage they inflict.
I agree, people definitely need to consider how their actions affect the environment. If people do not start to live more sustainably it is going to have large consequences on our environment. I agree that countries (especially the western ones) need to be rewired so people are less materialistic and more aware of the environment. I think the first step of that would be to educate more people about the rising CO2 levels and how their actions contribute to them. I think if more people did projects like the carbon footprint online calculator they would become more aware of how they personally are affecting the environment.
