Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Ways I Could Reduce My Carbon Footprint

CarolynRNY-USA

My carbon footprint was very high, but mostly because of transportation (30,567). This was probably because my family traveled a lot in the last year. For example, we flew to Texas and drove more than we should have. In the next year, the numbers should be lower.

I experienced the same thing, my transportation being 17,000. Everything else was below the average person. I think that if we were to also cut down on traveling and be more aware of how much I am in a car, I think it could help reduce our carbon footprint.

I had the same reaction when I found out what my carbon footprint was. I was shocked that it was so high. When I looked into it, it was really just the transportation that had added so much. Aside from that, my home, food, and purchases had below average levels. I also think that the transportation was so high because of the 6 flights I took and the amount I drive every year. In the future I will reduce this by carpooling more to school or to common destinations. Although I can not really change the trips my family plans to take, I will show them the impact of us flying so often and hopefully they will keep that in mind next time we want to fly somewhere.
