In Alameda County, California there is bag ban prohibiting the use of single use plastic bags in all retail stores. There's been a bag ban on grocery stores and other food establishments since 2013, but on May 1st, 2017 that bag ban opened up to include all retail stores in Alameda county. I believe that this was a step in the right direction to help prevent trash from entering our oceans and ecosystems, and ultimately, to help prevent global warming. Not only is this a huge issue, but plastic bags don't decompose and cause issues in the digestive tracks of animals.
