Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Grow your own tree

aaronwang

Trees and plants need to absorb CO2 as their nutrients to live and they will produce oxygen for animals to breath. A tree can absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year and can sequester 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old. If everybody on earth grows a tree right now, after 40 years the trees can absorb 7.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide and slow down the greenhouse effect that cause by carbon dioxide.

I think that growing your own trees is very smart. They can take in a lot of co2 but they also take up alot of space. For me I do not have a big backyard so growing a tree even if its a small one will take up a lot of room. Overall though growing trees is a very smart idea to help the earth.
