Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Living Sustainable
My carbon footprint was not as high as others. It came down to 9383. I think it is because in my house, we really enforce saving energy. This includes everything from unplugging our chargers from the wall when not in use, turning off the lights if we aren't in the room, and using a lot of natural light during the day time. Global warming is real, and while it may not go away, I believe there are ways to slow it down for the health of our population. This may include switching to hybrid and electric cars, unplugging devices not in use, carpooling, turning lights off by habit, and other things. If every person on earth did these things, there would be less carbon dioxide in the environment, and therefor we would be implementing sustainable living.
I agree with you Teralynn. My carbon footprint was also fairly low. In my household we also use natural light during the day, but struggle in the area of unplugging our charges from the wall when not in use. In order to make my carbon footprint even lower, I can work on unplugging my electronics when they are fully charge. Thank you for inspiring me to attempt to slow down global warming.
Hello I was looking at this discussion and I noticed that my Home energy Co2 released is super low. My Co2 release is 5,017Kgs, I think this is because I rarely use my heater or AC. In addition I unplug all my electronics when I leave but this number does not seem right. Because I spend an Excessive amount of time watching Tv and playing video games. Also Teralynn I some what agree with your way to slow down CO2 emissions. But we still have factories and planes and Ports. How would we stop Co2 emissions in places like this?
I see what you mean, Jermaine. Factories, planes, and ports are also very big CO2 sources. As are fossil fuels, electrical energy, ocean atmospheric exchange, plant and animal respiration, and volcanic eruptions. I will leave a link for more information regarding main sources of carbon dioxide at the end of my post. My point is, there are some things we simply cannot control. I feel like we need planes as a way of fast transportation, and we need ports to receive the basic materials needed for survival. Yes, there should be a more sustainable way of doing these things, but for now the fastest solutions would be those I listed earlier, in my opinion. Wouldn't you agree there are more cars and homes in the world compared to planes and ports? https://whatsyourimpact.org/greenhouse- … -emissions
By reading this post, I came to the realization that I was, in fact, bringing up my carbon footprint from the things I don't even realize about. From leaving my computer charged on overnight to always going to school with a single car occupied by only one other person, my carbon footprint is getting higher and higher over time. Also, Jermaine, I saw your reply and I realized that this is in fact, true. The human race's carbon footprint is dramatically getting higher because of this. Factories, planes, and ports seem to be very alarming CO2 emission sources as they use fossil fuels, which, according to "Main sources of carbon dioxide emissions" (https://whatsyourimpact.org/greenhouse- … -emissions), are 87% of the human sources of CO2. However, like Teralynn said, there are much more cars and homes than there are single factories, planes, and ports; and cars and homes also use fossil fuels. From this factor, one can now realize that by changing their habits at home as well as for transportation, they would be helping the environment tremendously. If more people change their habits to better suit the environment, like carpooling to school as well as unplugging your charger while not using it, we would be able to slow down the inevitable destruction of Earth.
