Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

As an athlete, I tend to eat a rather large quantity of food. Until I used the calculator, I was unaware of exactly how much the food I eat contributes to my carbon foot print. The amount was much higher than I expected. Thinking about how much food is wasted in America, it made me think about how much of an impact the food industry has on pollution in the world. If environmentally friendly alternatives to modern farming techniques were used, the difference would be substantial.

I completely agree. As an athlete, like you, my carbon footprint is very high. This caused me to become more aware of the food I was eating and how food industries negatively impacted our earth. In order to fix these issues we have created, us as a community need to find an effective alternative to save our environment.
