Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Electric Cars
I think we should start manufacturing and use more electric cars. One of the biggest parts of my carbon footprint comes from driving in gas cars. But if we could lower the price on electric cars and start using them more it will really reduce everyone's carbon footprint. Around the world it is industrialized with cars, the leading carbon dioxide comes from transportation and most cars. So if we just change the source of energy we use in our cars and at the same time to the same thing, we will save this earth.
I agree that electric cars are the way to go and according to the Union of Concerned Scientists, the issue of cost is going down. Within just six years the cost has gone down for car batteries from about 1,000 dollars per kWh (kilowatts per hour) with the first electric car model. Now the Tesla model 3 is sold at 190 dollars per kWh. This price has dropped 70% seance 2010. It is estimated to get into the range of gasoline vehicles in just a couple of years which is $150-$175 per kWh. Electric cars are also a smoother drive than gasoline cars because of the lower center of gravity which causes these cars to become less likely to roll over. These batteries also last a long time, of course they need to be charged but advanced batteries can last up to eight years or 100,000 miles. These electric cars are also helping advance workers rights as they are stopping the use of cobalt with them and switching to lithium-titanate. Cobalt is found in Congo where workers rights are poor and cobalt is causing civil wars in Congo. This is why I agree that electric cars are the way to g o.

I completely agree with you around that. If electric cars became more widespread and cheap the amount of co2 would be drastically decreased. Along with that I believe that public transport should also start going towards electricity instead of gas.
I agree with you because there are approximately 1 billion cars on this planet. Cars and factories have to take the majority of the blame for the fact that our planet is so polluted. Your solution is by far the best in my opinion since people will use cars no matter what, but changing the source of energy in cars if definitely a step in the right direction.
I agree, the number of gas using cars on the planet is huge, and each of them contribute to pollution. With the increase in the manufacturing of electric cars, electric cars will gradually become less expensive and more affordable to people who might have previously only been able to afford gas cars. Not only will the more widespread use of electric cars help reduce pollution, if it becomes the most used form of car power, oil drilling and the occasional spills could become less frequent.
I agree with you Harrison! Electric cars can greatly lessen the number of carbon levels. In addition, society should try converting other objects to electric. Electric trains can definitely reduce the CO2 levels. Electric heating systems instead of gas systems also help. Even switching to electric stoves instead of gas stoves helps.
I agree. Cars play a huge role in polluting the Earth and atmosphere, and electric cars are an easy way to cut down on this pollution significantly. According to USA Today, the European Commission stated in November that it would like to reduce CO2 pollution from cars by 30% by 2030, so we may be getting close to electric cars becoming much more common than they are now.
Yes, I agree with the whole electric car industry 100 percent. First of all even if they are a little more expensive than a regular car, they can benefit you much better in the long run because they save a lot more money than cars that run on gas. Second of all, they totally help our environment because of the less amount of CO2 that goes into the air. If we can find a way to get people to buy more electric cars and then (here's the good part) find a way to carpool while using electric cars, we will be doing pretty well in the whole CO2 problem. So, buy electric cars! They save the environment and save you money!
I agree Harrison. Regular cars have had an impact on the environment today. Having to use regular cars emits carbon dioxide. This emits and changes the climate, creating global warming. If we were to use electric cars, it would a create a clean, and healthy environment for everyone. Also, electric cars have renewable energy, using this to charge your car can reduce the amount of greenhouse emissions even further. Not only does it only benefit the environment widely, but it definitely saves some money!
This is a very good point, the biggest CO2 releaser is burning fossil fuels. Electric cars would reduce the amount of CO2 released dramatically, if we do not make the switch soon global warming will get out of control, even more than it already is. Electric cars would create a good environment and reduce emissions very much. One of the main arguments against electric cars is that they usually cost more in the beginning, however, in the long run, it costs less. The price of gas over time ends up being more than the electricity needed to charge an electric car.
I think that this is a good point. Cars do contribute to our collective carbon foot print significantly. The problem with it is that electric cars cost lots of money. People are currently working on a solution with companies such as Tesla. I think thart this a great point and one that will be a big part of our future.
I agree that car companies should put more effort into producing electric cars. Tesla is already doing a good job of this, but we need cheaper options, and we need to build the possibilities for electric cars, like gas companies installing charging stations. This would eliminate the issues we have with electric cars today. We need to take a step in the right direction to reduce our leading cause of carbon emissions by putting more effort into electric car production.
