Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carpooling To the Next Level
Although it is a given that carpooling is used and helps the school's efficiency with Carbon emissions, in order to make a significant difference, EVERYONE in the school community needs to contribute. In the beginning of the school year, volunteer parents will submit a form saying where they live, what area they can pick students up from, and how many students they can fit in the car (after counting their own children). It is then all emailed to ALL parents and students, carpooling sorted out by area and in order of the amount of students available. The parents seeking for carpools can then easily find a carpool for their child, and email the parent carpooling directly with their address. This causes not only more efficiency, but a way to socialize with peers and save stress for some parents!
I agree there are many ways to reduce carbon, and a big one is tranportation. People who can’t take busses or trains, or other sorts of public tranportation may find carpooling to be the best way to go. If everyone can carpool from school and too school or carpooling for sports this could reduce carbon by quit a bit.
Isaiah, I think this is a really good idea and could save us a lot of energy, but there are several flaws. First of all, why not have everyone just take the bus. The bus goes to every road in town that has kids to pick up and is basically a vehicle built for carpooling. This saves even more energy because a bus can fit like 30 kids while most cars can only fit five. This also saves even more stress for parents because they don’t have to do anything.
I agree with Eric, taking a bus is way more easy for students and can hold much more of them. By carpooling, cars are only holding about 5 students at a time. There would be fewer carbon emissions if 30 people took one large vehicle. Also, some students may complain that they have to walk a bit to get to a bus stop however this is very little effort to put into helping the environment.
