Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Buy Local

mathew_g21

Buying local is also a big help to the environment. If you buy local you save C02 because they have to ship the food to where you live and harm our ocean life because of the massive ships that they have. The ships carry lots of Cargo and which is large polution. They also come by truck but it also affects life. This is why you should buy localy.

I agree what you said that buying local foods is the best way to go about it because if not food that is shipped here can destroy sea life. Food can also be driven or flown in by a company which pollutes the Earth.  Though I have a question, how do you think buying locally will decrease the amount of food shipped, flown or driven in by non-local places will decrease?

MollyK

I agree because when you ship products over the sea oils and many other things can get into the water and cause fish and other sea life to die.

I agree because shipping food not only costs more, but it also causes much more pollution. Shipping food destroys ocean ecosystems all over the world. While delivering local food isn't without its faults, it does much less damage do the environment.
