Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Reusable Bottles and Bags

kelty

Plastic water bottles and bags are a very large and easy to fix problem. Pacinst.org reveals that in 2006 <bottling water produced more than 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide.> Purchasing a reusable water bottle does not only save you money, it also minimizes your carbon footprint. Same goes for reusable bags. These are very easy and effective solutions to minimizing and helping our carbon footprints.

Great point! Most stores have started to transition to paper bags and charging $0.10 for them. In other states, plastic bags are still handed out as freely as before.  I was wondering how much lower our carbon footprint could be as a nation if everywhere paper bags were only supplied and they were $0.10 per just like in California. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, the plastic bottles and bags people are using is harming some of the earth and lowering carbon footprint.
