Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My carbon footprint

Nhiiiii

My name is Nhi, I'm 13 years old and I am from Vietnam. Well, my carbon footprint is much higher than an average person in my region. My total is 42,359 kgs. Can you guys believe it? The average carbon footprint in my region is only about 1000 kgs. Mine is like 42,000 times higher!!
I never litter, so it's fine. But I think my problems are that I don't really recycle, I always travel by car, I never close the water faucet while brushing my teeth, I go overseas by plane at least once every year, I go to another city by cars at least once every two months, I use air-con and fans every single day and a lot more.
To me, these activities are quite normal. I mean, I do these every single day, and I don't have any problems with them. And I didn't know that these activities can rise so much CO2 emmisions, and my carbon footprint is abnormal to this website. It's not like I'm stupid and don't know anything about saving the envirionment and stuff, it's just that these are really normal to me from when I was born until now.
Can you guys give me some tips on how to reduce my carb on footprint? Maybe I think I should forget my bad habits. Oh, and one more thing, if I tell my teacher that my carbon footprint is 42,359, maybe he is going to be bery shocked.

Nhi we are very similar in a way. Last year I traveled all the way to Cuba to visit the family I took flew 4 times from San Francisco to Cuba. And then I was flying back and forth from Oakland Ca to LA all summer long. MY footprint for transportation came up to 4,411,970 kgs

You should start walking to places instead of driving and you should make sure the lights are turned off when you are not in a room same as the water and you should make sure that you don't use to much of things at a certain time.

Although you travel at least a year by plane there are other things you can change to decrease your carbon footprint. By changing your daily routines like using a fan, leaving the water running while brushing your teeth, walking more frequently to destinations or take public transportation, turn off lights you are not using, eat locally grown food, recycle, and compost.

reduce transportation  and be careful about what you eat and how it affects your carbon footprint. also drive a electric car or drive with someone who has one.

Since you're from Vietnam and most of us commenting are from the U.S our carbon footprints are very different, just from how we live everyday. Keep up the good carbon footprint!

You should save up energy when t necessarily like turn of light during the day.

You should definitely try to reduce the amount you travel by car or bus to avoid gas emissions into the environment.

If yours is only around the average then keep up the good work but maybe try using more fuel efficient appliances and such.

You could lower your transportation and stop littering
