Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

The necessity to start buying local food

gind

Nowadays one of the biggest problems regarding climate change is due the  common idea to buy only in supermarkets, instead of choosing another kind of production: the local production. As a matter of fact, when we buy our food in big food companies we always think where it is from, but instead we should realize the way it came in our house. It takes weeks for the food to arrive in our country (let's just think at the food that comes from South America or Africa) and of course this involves a release of toxic substances (like CO2,...). Furthermore there is all the packaging, which requires the construction of a lot of factories.
This is why I think that local food is the most ecologic way of production.

I agree, and with climate change will come greater chances of crop failures due to extreme weather events, fires, droughts, insect populations explosions, and plant diseases.  Growing food locally everywhere provides greater food security for people everywhere.
