Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Are electric cars the future?

matteopozzo

What do you guys think about electric cars? Do you think that they are going to be the future?
I personally think that yes, they are going to be the future, but only for one reason: there will be no more petroleum left. Us human beings are using way too much petroleum on the daily day basis, and the bad part is that it’s not an unlimited resource: once we run out of it, we must wait millions of years till it comes back. A bad thing is that petroleum, for example contained in plastic or in petrol, is very bad for the environment once is released. Petrol cars are one of the main problems that cause the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, and if we can replace them with electric, the situation will get definitely better. It’s true that the battery we use for electric cars pollute, but way less than petroleum.
I believe what Elon Musk, founder of the electric car company “Tesla”, says: "In order to have clean air in cities, you have to go electric".

In fact now there is enough petroleum for all the rest of this century or probably more.
One reason could be that use an electric car is cheaper than use a traditional car, because the oil cost more than electricity.

In my opinion I think electric cars will be surely the future. For example my father has an hybrid car and he pays much less than when he had a gas car, so I'm quite sure that with an electric car the costs will be even less. It is in the interests of everybody to safe money and pay less, so this reason could be a nice incentive to change and this will create an advantage for us and for the planet.

Here I found other interesting things about the advantages to have an electric car. https://www.fleetcarma.com/why-electric … n-gas-top/

I agree with you, when it burns the gasoline they are formed a lot of gas harmful for our health. A solution is surely the use of the public transports, so that to reduce the polluting emission, but the problem is that there are few schedules and it is difficult that they arrange with those some people. The electric cars don't produce the harmful gases of the gasoline cars and they preserve the liberty that the public transports don't have, therefore I believe that can be a solution suitable to the situation

But is very important to understand from where comes this energy, because if the electricity is generated using fossil sources the problem of emission is not resolved
