Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Is the food industry a problem for our planet?

chloee00

The food industries pollute too much producing food that for the most part we didn’t even eat. So I think that they should produce less, to have less waste.

I definitely agree that the food industry is a huge contributor to global warming and that so much of that food isn't consumed, its thrown away.  I think that in addition to not producing so much excess, they should also work on every other aspect of the product.  The packaging, the transportation, the source of ingredients, etc.  I think that would make a bigger difference then simply cutting down their production.

I totally agree with Land and Chloe.  Food industries cause massive amounts of environmental pollution not only in the process of fabricating the food but also the fact that much of it is wasted.  I found this article and while it may not specifically address this question, it talks about how the foods we eat impact the environment.  I found it fascinating:  https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2016/12/ … nvironment

I agree with you guys. We could do more locally grown things or organic foods. And other option like being vegan or vegetarian. In general, you should go to a  farmer market near you or look at a grocery store a tag or sticker that say locally grown or organic.
