Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Natalia, Rybnik, Poland
Hi! My name is Natalia. I'm 17 years old. I live i Rybnik, Poland.
My average carbon footprint is 7,087 kgs and in Poland average is 6,526 kgs. I've got the highest score in the category called 'home' - 4,250 kgs. What should I do to minimise score in this category, you think? Instead the lowest score I have in 'purchases' category - 28 kgs. I have no idea how it could happen because I love shopping!
What is your opinion about my total carbon footprint? ![]()
Well you should specify what you exactly do at home to see what is really causing such a big footprint, but as most people are if you like taking long baths/showers than take a quicker one and if you like keeping the heat/cool on then try not to use that as much, same with some household electronics (TV, game systems, cell phone, etc.) using any of those less with definitely help in your carbon footprint.
Maybe in order to minimize your "home" score, you should consider switching your light bulbs to eco friendly fluorescent light bulbs. I also had that question when it came to my own "purchases" results. I thought my score was going to be higher but it was actually way lower than I thought. Do you like shopping for a good deal or maybe going to thrift stores? Maybe that's why the score what lower than you expected.
In order to minimize your carbon use at home, you could switch your lightbulb, or try to conserve the amount of power used at your home. Turning off the power when you are done with an electronic or shutting off the lights when you leave the room can greatly affect the amount of energy you use. You could also change your shower head to low flow for less water usage, or turn your water off while you brush your teeth.
To decrease your carbon footprint you could turn off lights when you leave rooms, don't run water while brushing teeth, ect. Just a suggestion, good job on having a low Carbon footprint!
The average in North Carolina is 15,918.
So your doing great. An other way to reduce your "home" is to have a compost area outside for biodegradable trash.
wow your carbon footprint is very low great job and I really like your idea to help decrease your footprint.
That is not too bad of a carbon footprint, it is way less than the average North Carolina, US citizen, which is 15,918. Definitely open more windows instead of electric lights and turn off water when you're not using it.
Your carbon footprint was so much lower than mine (23,391 kgs), mine is still significantly higher than my regions (15,918 kgs). Thats so interesting that your region is so much lower than my region. You still do have a fairly environmentally friendly life especially compared to mine. Keep up the awesome work helping the environment!
