Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Use less water

lcastro22

People waste water all the time at home. Examples are when people take long showers, leave the water running while brushing their teeth or using hot water to wash your clothes. Using hot water takes more energy to heat up and instead of using cold water.

I agree completely! Hot water isn't a necessity, but a luxury that people do not have to use everyday. In fact, using cold water is scientifically proven to help improve body circulation, healthy hair, and skin. While brushing your teeth, nobody needs to have water running and it just adds unnecessary kg's to your carbon footprint. Another thing people can do to conserve water is watering your plants in the early morning or late evening because in the middle of the day, water just evaporates and does not give any nutrients to the plant. Thanks for this post! It was super informative.

I completely agree, people never think about how often and long they take showers.  Everyone (including me) just thinks its a couple extra mins, no harm done.   But extra minutes everyday, with billions of people taking showers, is a lot.  Ways you could help is having a timer or clock to look at, measuring your time in the shower.
